The process of creating a giclee edition from an original painting is based on the same premise as the Iris Giclee which was originally developed in photography as a plateless method for individually generated, very high resolution prints. The word “giclee” is French for “to spray.” It begins with a one-to-one high quality scan of an original painting using an Iris print and an ICC, International Color Consortium, color matching software.
